Mount Buffalo National Park

The toboggan slopes and cross-country ski trails of Mount Buffalo National Park are just a one-hour drive from Myrtleford. Unlike most other snow destinations in Australia, entry to Mount Buffalo is free, making it an affordable place to experience snow. The park has two toboggan slopes – Dingo Dell and Cresta Valley – and a number of groomed cross-country ski trails. Snow conditions vary depending on the weather, so check out the snow cams before you leave. Skiing & Snowboarding

Ski & Snowboard Hire

There are two ski shops in Myrtleford conveniently located on your way to Falls Creek, Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain. You'll find Rays Ski Shop on the Great Alpine Road in Myrtleford and the Happy Valley Hub on the corner of the Great Alpine Road and Happy Valley Road in Ovens. Both stores have a range of skis and snowboards for purchase or hire, clothing, footwear and snow chains. Hiring your gear off-mountain will save you time because parking is limited in the ski villages and you'll generally need to catch shuttle buses to get around.

Before You Leave

Snow Chains

It's mandatory to carry snow chains into alpine areas during the snow season to give you better traction on the slippery roads. You can hire your chains at Rays Ski Shop in Myrtleford or the Happy Valley Hub in Ovens, where the attendants will show you how to fit them to your vehicle before you leave.
